Cakes. Who doesn't love cake? But gone are the days of a plain white tiered cake. The world is your oyster when it comes to cake these days with some great alternatives. Below is just a small selection of some of my favourites.

(None of these paid to be featured - they are just creations I genuinely love!)

The couple met in the alps whilst out on a snowboarding holiday and their relationship blossomed whilst running a chalet for a season out there. Food was a big part of their life and when France and food collide - a stunning Croquembouche was the obvious choice for their wedding cake (complete with snowboarding models for a topper!). This was great fun for the guests and can provide dessert for the wedding breakfast too. It was my first Croquembouche and I'm sure that was the case for most of the guests too so it's always nice to have something different. This one came from

I ordered a selection of these Macarons as part of a photoshoot and oh my word were they delicious!! They have a huge range of colours and flavours so can be tailor made to suit your wedding styling and themes (Orange, Raspberry and Lemon were my particular favourites!).  Along with the Macaron towers,  you can order them as favours and gifts too. A popular alternative to cake, a beautiful addition to the dessert table or a colourful centrepiece, these are a fun addition to any wedding. There are plenty of Macaron producers around but this one came from

Nevie Pie

Hand Painted

This stunning cake belonged to some friends of mine and you don't get much more bespoke than this for a wedding! So much fun and designed specially for the couple, this Glastonbury cake was baked and hand painted by the wonderfully talented Natasha Collins @ Nevie Pie Cakes. Whatever your wedding style, this is a fabulous option as each cake is hand designed and created just for you. It's also bang on trend! Check out some of her other work -

If you're a fan of chocolate, you can't really go wrong with a Choccywoccydoodah cake. The designs are exquisite and definitely unique. This one is taken from their website but I've had the pleasure of tasting a stunning dark chocolate cake with white chocolate decor and boy is it moreish! Strong on design and guaranteed delicious, they're definitely one to consider if chocolate's your thing -

They've been around a while but for those who aren't crazy about sweet things, you can't go wrong with a cheese cake. Always popular at weddings (or any event really!), you can guarantee this will get nibbled at all evening! I had one of these for a 30th birthday I planned from The Cheeseworks and the service was stunning. Shop around as you don't need to get locally if there's specific cheese you're after, most companies will deliver. It all arrived packaged up and I built it on bespoke stands, so it's a good alternative for those who like to DIY too (or get someone else to DIY!). Can be used as part of your evening buffet too.

Contemporary Classic

Classic cakes will always be popular and this happens to be one of my favourite designs from the gallery of Sherry Holster. Her luxury cakes are not only absolutely delicious, but stylish, contemporary and quite frankly, just beautiful! And definitely don't mistake classic for boring - they are anything but. Naked Cakes, rainbow cakes, fun themed cakes - the gallery is so varied and something for everyone's taste.
